Privacy and Security

Scope

This statement applies to user interactions with the Resource Generator website, at http://www.resourcegenerator.gov.au/

General

The Resource Generator website makes some use of data that directly or indirectly identifies users. We take great care with practices that affect personal privacy. Resource Generator staff welcome feedback from their users in relation to the site's design and practices, and to this Privacy Statement. Data Collection

Data that in some way identifies the user is gathered during interactions with the Resource Generator website in the following circumstances:

User Registration

User registration is provided to enable a user to add their own resources to those provided on the site for their use and to enable a user to share some of their resources with colleagues. User registration is not required to make use of the standard resources on this site.

The only identifying information collected about a registered user is their electronic mail address and a name which the user provides. The name need not be related to the real name of the user. The electronic mail address is required to assist with managing forgotten user-IDs and passwords and may also be used to notify users of issues directly associated with managing the Resource Generator website.

If a user chooses to join a group, their electronic mail address will be disclosed to the manager of that group.

Except as described above, user registration information will not be disclosed to another party nor used for any purpose that does not relate directly to managing the website.

Computer Information

It is a necessary part of visiting any website, including the Resources Generator website, that the user's web browser provides the machine's identity (its IP address) to the web server, so that the server can address the reply to the correct machine. In addition, the browser type and operating system are provided.

Navigation and ClickStream Data

Browsing any website, including the Resource Generator website, generates a trail of pages visited and the time apparently spent displaying each page.

User Feedback

We seek feedback from our users in order to improve the service offered by the site. Providing feedback is voluntary and does not in any way affect your access to the Resource Generator website.

Data Storage, Use and Disclosure, and Retention

All personal data described in the preceding section is stored in transmission logs, and archived for a period that is yet to be determined but is likely to be at least 12 months and quite probably 7 years.

The data is used by Resource Generator website software, and by staff involved in the Resource Generator operation, only for:

• website and system administration, including monitoring to prevent security breaches;
• customisation of the website to the user's needs; and
• evaluation, research and development.

Identified data can only be re-disclosed to the user if the user provides the unique request session number. Identified data may be disclosed to a third party only in circumstances in which such disclosure is legally authorised, such as in the investigation of a criminal offence, and in compliance with a search warrant or subpoena.

Accountability

The staff who operate the Resource Generator site, and most Commonwealth government agencies, are subject to the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988.
